NORFOLK:
Now for some more local fine dining…
1. STOKE MILL – A fantastic newly discovered contemporary fine dining restaurant which is a fine old watermill building.

2. Also near the stunning Dunston Hall, my latest discovery is The Wildebeest. Recently refurbished, it’s fine Decor and dim lighting is the perfect place to share fantastic food with others – a posh family Sunday Lunch in particular. Scallops, black and white truffle, guinea fowl and Beef fillet at their finest.
3. Blakeney Hotel – A great location for getting a boat out to see the local Seals – this place has super panoramic views over the estuary and offers hearty English/ Continental breakfasts, lunches and dinners.
As it was 5pm when I stopped by this place, I went for the assortment of pastries and an Egg custard Portugese tart with an English Breakfast Tea – did just the job for that afternoon fix!
Not only is the location great, the area itself is fantastic with its quirky streets, art galleries and old cottages scattered between the lanes; this is where I came across the coolest address name in the world… 4. The Mulbery – Unthank Road; very disappointing. Considering it looks like the best restaurant on the road, the service was awful and the duck breast and lamb shank were not cooked to perfection, which is what you expect with the pricey menu and fashionable venue…
AROUND THE BROADS…
1. The Victoria Inn – A tremendous building and restaurant situated across the road from one of the top sites to see in Norfolk – Holkham Beach (my favourite Beach on the Broads!) The food was delicious as I came last Christmas and tucked into a Pheasant breast with side veg seasoned to perfection.
2. The Recruiting Sergeant in Horstead – My latest favourite place for a Roast Beef Sunday Lunch; large portions, a tremendous selection of food and fantastic service. A perfect place to enjoy a meal or drink outside in the Summer beer garden, or ideal for a cosy atmosphere inside over the Christmas period.
3. The Ship Inn at South Walsham is the same chain as The Recruiting Sergeant; it’s much more casual and a smaller venue. I’d recommend this place for a drink and pudding as I was a little disappointed with my burnt Yorkshire Pudding – something the restaurant above nailed.
This place is also dog friendly which overcomes the standard pickle of “where to put your pets” on a nice spontaneous weekend outing.
4. The Pigs at Edgfield – fantastic food and tremendous portion sizes as you can see in the picture below of my Steak & Ale pie with mash and gravy on the side.
5. The Hoste at Burnham Market – A perfect spot in a beautiful building; fantastic for Seafood lovers;
6. Nelson Head in Horsey – An amazing selection of freshly cooked food with a very rustic and authentic interior – Nelson Head is located next to the hot spot for Seal watching.
By far the best place to eat in Horsey – although there’s not many places in the area for competition! I can’t wait to return in the Winter time as the fire will be on so it will be a cosy setting for comfort eating 🙂 There’s a large sized beer garden just opposite the entrance so it’s also perfect for the Summer.
SUFFOLK:
Let’s just throw a couple in from SURREY: 1. Tony Tobin – I feel this special restaurant in Surrey needs a mention. It’s where my Greeko one and I’s first year anniversary took place back in 2012, and I’ve heard the restaurant standards have remained top notch.
Amazing service – they even made us this delightful chocolate pudding to celebrate! God knows how an evening this civilised then turned into the waiters clapping us on as we proved our gymnast skills – his father doing a head stand whilst I did the splits behind him. We were the last ones in the restaurant so it seemed a good idea at the time.
2. Also in Reigate, The Skimmington Castle is a fantastic find serving real food, real ales and has real fires. There’s an option for a great country walk to get to this place; I highly recommend the Chicken and Stilton pie – delcious!
3. Mizu Noodle Bar in IPSWICH – as I’m currently living in Norwich, I took a little trip down this neck of the woods and discovered a fantastic noodle bar next to the Corn Exchange theatre (seeing Stuart Francis perform his one liners.)
