Holbeck Ghyl

Dining in the Lake District – the best birthday surprise numero deux to celebrate  my 27th  year of food life 🥂🍽💃

As you can tell from the above, the boy did good…

Located up in the hills of Lake Windermere lies a fabulous, quaint and authentic hotel called Holbeck Ghyl.

Upon arrival, we were greeted with complimentary sloe gin, lemon cookies and a serious room with a view.

The most exciting thing to look forward to in this place has got to be the hotel restaurant, which has been notoriously featured in the TV show, The Trip.

12 years running the restaurant had its Michelin star and had just unfortunately lost it, however, this did not phase me as I found it a great time to go as standards were high and you could feel the dedication of the staff fighting for it back.

We went for the taster menu with a different wine taster to compliment each course 🍷
As you can see there’s a lot of courses to go through, so I’ll take you through a few of them for now… let’s start with the Duck liver in a steamed mini Forrest – which had a very sharp and phenomenal kick to it;

Followed by the creamed mussels & celeriac – my favourite mini starter;

Then on to the mains for my personal favourite – the rare cut of Beef next to a rich mushroom sauce which was all cooked to perfection 👌

And last but not least, you’ve got to take a look at these puddings below 😍Chocolate rhubarbs & creme anglaise 🤗

Oh, and then the cheese trolley had to be brought out – so the evening just kept on getting better! 🧀

The experience was so nice we made sure to try the Eggs Benedict with holondaise sauce & bacon for breakfast. 🍳

All in all, I found Holbeck Ghyl to be the most magical place to stay, eat, chill and celebrate my 27th birthday – a wonderful destination I’ll most definitely be returning to and I highly recommend to anyone visiting the Lake District 🥂☀️🙋
