Not far from my family home-town in rural Shropshire lies the fabulous Goldstone Hall Hotel, which is an award winning Restaurant and Hotel. Upon arrival, my family and I were greeted at the door by a friendly waitress who escorted us into a comfortable lounge are before being seated in the restaurant. This was a very cosy setting and a great way to start our evening, with Elderfower gins all round!
Once we were ready to start dinner with a bottle of chilled White, we were served complimentary warm brown & white bread with a lovely cream soup to set the taste- buds wondering…Now is where the taster menu truly started, with my chosen appetizer of Crispy Polenta with textures of onion and sage.
The next starter consisted of the duck ham, artichoke, cured egg yolk and hazelnut. Beautifully presented with tastes of perfection, spiced just right.
On to the main course, I selected the Beef Fillet with turnip, girolles, and red wine sauce. This was red meat done at it’s best…
It was difficult selecting our puddings from the taster menu because they all just looked so good.
After a lengthy debate, we chose the Prune Parfait – not an option I’d of initially gone for but I had a feeling it would be a lot more magnificent that the standard taste of prune. And boy did it deliver… with ingredients of tokaji coated in milk ice cream.Next on the list was the Rhubarb Panna Cotta with ginger. The Panna Cotta was phenomenal – light and creamy with just the right texture to it on a crunchy little base of crumble. And my personal best for dessert was the White Chocolate Banana with hazelnut – simply mouth-watering!Ending the night with the recommended cheese selection of Mr Moyden’s North Shropshire Cheeses. This was served with carrot chutney which I hadn’t tried before, and found the sweetness from the carrot worked really well with the contrast of the strong cheese. Oh, and the homemade crackers were very moreish!
All washed down with a fabulous pot of Taylors Tea & Goldstone’s Blended Coffee.
