I have to share with you my most recent restaurant/ spa trip with my Mother, where we took ourselves for a girly day out to the Grosvenor Hotel & Spa in Pulford.
FYI, this was not the Grosvenor in Chester, which is an easy mistake when you get these Travelzoo vouchers – but that’s for another story…
So a quick last minute drive from the Chester spa to the Pulford spa soon left us feeling more relaxed, with the combination of the service, spa facilities and of course Afternoon Tea which I will go on to later in this post.
Within the Grosvenor hotel, the Spa by Kasia is a luxury retreat which offers relaxation rooms, traditional Hamman, Roman style swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, gymnasium, outdoor tennis court, Spa Boutique, Spa Eatery, and a unique and stunning Asian Sensory Garden which guests are free to walk around.
The restaurant within the hotel is called Ciro’s Brasserie which is a Mediterranean themed restaurant specialising in modern European cuisine cooked using fresh, seasonal, local produce awarded for its quality with an AA Rosette.
Once the spa session finished (back massage included in this Travelzoo offer), we thought it was for the best to head to the restaurant and kick-start our dining experience with the Strawberry & Mint Fizz Cocktail to continue our luxurious spa day.
Priced at £7.95, it was worth the concoction of ingredients which included Strawberry Puree, Mint Granite and Prosecco.
Stuck in the mindset of not having to make decisions for the day, we were both torn between whether to go for the main restaurant menu or to go along with the Afternoon Tea as planned. Luckily, we ended up with both; we were able to have one Afternoon Tea AND a starter with main from the A La Carte Menu for just £1 extra.
The £16.50 Afternoon Tea was part of the Travelzoo voucher deal, which consisted of a selection of freshly made sandwiches, including – Honey baked Cheshire ham and meux mustard; Roast sirloin of Ridings Reserve beef, horseradish and rocket; Egg mayonnaise and chive; Prawn and crayfish Marie-Rose.
And of course, freshly baked fruit scones with clotted cream and a variety of jams, along with an assortment of homemade cakes and pastries. You then got the option of tea or coffee.
A La Carte Menu:
Recommended by the friendly and accommodating waiter, we had the poached and torched Loch Duart Salmon, keta caviar, Muncaster crab mayonnaise, apple and radish salad starter, which was absolutely divine.
Here’s a snapshot into the lunch menu below to give you a feel for what other fantastic dishes they had to offer.
Again sharing half the afternoon tea and half the starter/main between us, we went for the Duck served pink. Duck is one of my favourite meats and would usually be a first choice when seen on the menu; this dish included a glazed Gressingham duck leg, roast breast, merguez sausage, seasonal vegetables and rhubarb compote. The picture below says it all…
So there you have it – a great retreat to visit for both relaxation and eating! And the fabulous city of Chester is only a 10 minute drive away from Pulford so a perfect place to continue the day walking around from bar to restaurant to cafe to a little shop around the boutique stores 😍
