You may have read my latest reviews on multiple restaurants around Altrincham; I’m now delighted to reveal my next MUST-GO place just opposite Altrincham Market, Sugo Pasta.

After all, it was about time to venture out to a restaurant that’s not in the main Market Square which I’ve visited pretty much every weekend since the Summer move!

And so I followed my heart and booked the most talked about Italian in town at Sugo, the ideal place for celebrating my dad’s birthday – the man I got my appetite from!

After hearing great reviews about Sugo, my entire family & I were getting excited to spend our evening at the rustic & small (but cosy) venue.

Serving fresh Pugliese pasta which derives from the Ligorio family in San Vito, Puglia (South Italy), there’s a unique pasta dish for everyone…

Pictured above is my favourite pasta dish served at this restaurant; Strascinate with slow cooked cannellini beans, wild broccoli and broccolini, chilli, and pecorino. Priced at £11.50, the prices are affordable considering the quality of ingredients and size of the dishes.

Let’s rewind back to the most exciting intro part to the meals served at Sugo –

The Starters:

1. Grilled fresh mackerel, fennel puree, raisin and parsley gremolata, toasted hazelnuts – £7.50
2. Arancino filled with basil pesto and Campania mozzarella di bufala, san Marzano dressing – £6.50
3. Beef and mortadella meatballs, san Marzano and ricotta ragu, parmesan, pangrattato – £7.50
4. Bruschetta ‘Pugliese’, fava bean puree, broccoli ‘friarelli’, crispy onions, sourdough – £6.50
5. Burrata mozzarella, orange and chilli marmalade, grilled radicchio, Pugliese ex virgin oil – £9.

Now for the best-selling dish on the menu – the House Sugo (pictured above); Orecchiette with a slow cooked beef shin, pork shoulder and nduja ragu. With the high-end ingredients this dish is the most expensive pasta dish on the menu and is priced at £14 – again, very reasonable.

Other pasta dishes offered at Sugo consist of Strozzapreti pasta and Cavatelli styled seafood dishes, with a whole lot of Parmesan and a variety of alternative Italian flavours I couldn’t wait to get stuck into…

The Sides:

  • Sicilian fennel, orange, chicory, black olive and mint salad
  • Radicchio, wild rocket, 12 month parmesan and balsamic salad
  • Broccolini with garlic, chilli, pecorino Romano, pangrattato
  • Local sourdough, Pugliese ex virgin oil, maldon salt.

Delicious 🤤 The perfect place for true Italian food in a warm & welcoming environment – I couldn’t recommend this place more! This goes for the house wine too – served in tumbler glasses for that authentic feel 🍷

*A light G&T from their Gin ‘Specials’ menu is also a nice way to welcome or finish off your meal at Sugo…
