A stylish sanctuary, hidden under the heart of Manchester.
Australasia’s modern eatery sure lives up to their slogan outlined above – positioned underneath the glass pyramid entrance nestled in Spinningfields’ peak restaurant location, this area is fast establishing itself as the city’s culinary quarter.
With a menu consisting of Indonesian and Japanese influences from the Pacific Rim (a top cuisine choice of mine), I was delighted to attend Australasia’s latest invite to try out the delights of the new Christmas food and drinks menu at their corporate showcase evening.
Upon arrival, the prosecco was soon flowing and my guest and I were greeted with a warm welcome by the organisers of the event. We were instantly blown away by the live music consisting of an electric violinist playing alongside the restaurant’s resident DJ located in the corner of the VIP section, which soon set the ambience for an evening of well cooked food and exotic flavoured cocktails to follow.
As a huge fan of South-East Asian styled cuisine, I’d of course previously visited Australasia several times since the opening back in 2011. I can honestly say I have always left this place feeling highly satisfied with all elements of your standard dining out check-list; high quality of food & ingredients (very aesthetically pleasing), excellent service and an all round luxurious vibe this place exudes with its chic decor & dimly set lighting – ideal for celebrating a special occasion.
From an undeniably positive experience I’ve always witnessed at Australasia, I could not wait to trial out their new Christmas menu. As always, once the last of Summer approaches us, the Winter season is here before you know it so it’s down to my #EatOutMoore blog to ensure you’re dining out at the right places for a little ‘pick me up’ through the cold nights ahead!
With the restaurant’s menu largely focussing and specialising in Sushi, I am pleased to confirm the flavoursome and freshness of each dish has remained outstanding. Here’s the list of what there is to offer:
– Salmon, togarashi, cream cheese & cucumber kimchi California roll
– Roasted red pepper & Japanese mayonnaise nigiri
– Avocado, watermelon & shiso maki roll
– Yellowfin tuna & sriracha chirashi bowl.
In addition to the above, it is also recommended to order the edamame beans with truffle and smoked sea salt.
Along with the new sushi selection above, we were offered the Rabata selection which consisted of all new canapes sampled below:
– Beef fillet skewer with galbi sauce
– Chilli & lime king prawn with mango sambal
– Yakiniku spiced chicken skewer.
The Christmas menu also offers a Signature Selection consisting of the below mouth-watering dishes:
– Glazed Barbary duck breast, butternut squash & ginger purée and bok choi
– Sea trout, warm wakame & daikon salad, samphire and spiced miso
– Romanesco and sprouting broccoli with puffed rice.
Again, another accompanying side dish for these options would be their sweet potato mash.
All the canapes served from the above were washed down nicely with a fruity Pina Colada – consisting of the classic cocktail flavours including Koko Kanu, Bacardi Carta Blanca, coconut, pineapple and lime.
In my element, it was then time for trying out the desserts.
Captured from Australasia’s insta stories on the night of this corporate showcase event – here’s a snippet into what there was on offer…
As heavenly as it sounds and looks, here are the additional key pudding options you can indulge yourself with from the new Christmas menu:
– Golden miso chocolate pot with honeycomb crumb
– Pomegranate & hibiscus panna cotta with almond & chilli tuile
– Pistachio & cherry parfait
– Gilded popcorn.
Cocktail Making – Sunset by Australasia
As a little extra excitement added to the evening, my guest and I were soon invited to pop next door to Australasia’s sister restaurant & bar section for taking part in an exclusive cocktail making class.
- The Frozen Pornstar – Passoa, Belsazar Rose, Pineapple, lemon, vanilla and a shot of sparkling.
- 2) Kiwi Daiquiri – Bacardi Carta Blanca, kiwi and lime.
The bar staff were super informative and appreciated for allowing my friend Heather & I to create our cocktails of choice as specified above, and we’ll most definitely be returning to Sunset by Australasia for an evening with the rest of the girls.
All in all, a fantastic dining out experience with a new exciting menu for you to try out. There’s no shadow of doubt Australasia is one of Manchester’s most exquisite restaurants to enjoy delicious food and refreshing cocktails for a special occasion.
