Cottonopolis Food & Liquor

Being Valentines weekend and all I thought I’d share some love for my number one restaurant in Manchester’s hipster & vibrant area within the Northern Quarter – introducing Cottonpolis Food & Liquor – a lively and trendy venue serving Japanese food at its finest.

Set up in a warehouse-style building, Cottonpolis is dressed to impress in terms of decor, with its chic furnishings and candle-lit lighting to exude an edgy atmosphere.

From having a long day out trying on Wedding Dresses in the area, I decided to treat my Mother & bestie for a little Asian cuisine at my chosen eatery, Cottonopolis, the perfect restaurant for celebrating hours of milestone moments after choosing ‘the one‘.

The Menu:

Divided into categories of food type, Cottonpolis’ unique menu is separated under RICE dishes, FIRE, OIL, and STEAM as you’ll see from the snapshot of the menu below.

The Dishes:

We went for a selection of recommended dishes by the friendly waiter, which consisted of the following:

Kurobuta Pork Yakiton, Spring Onion & Chilli Jam (£8)
Chicken Yakatori, Chilli & Peanut Sauce (£9)
Wagyu Beef Tsukune, Crispy Shallots & Shoryu Yolk (£12)
  • Tiger Prawn Tempura, Avocado Salsa & Seaweed Salt (£8)
  • Katsu Chicken Curry Sauce & Tonkatsu (£10)
  • Duck Gyoza Dumplings (£7)

Being a dumpling fan (apologies for my lack of articulation with that phrasing there!) I was most looking forward to the Duck, Plum & Ginger Gyoza pictured above; simply delicious.

It was soon apparent that the chefs at Cottonpolis know what they’re doing! Each dish was bursting with authentic Asian flavours, and seasoned to the perfect level. The portion sizes were ideal for allowing a ‘tapas’ style order without getting too full; a clever menu designed for allowing a sociable yet cost effective dining out experience.

After washing down the above with a bottle of Austrian GRÜNER VELTLINER VOM HAUS (a refreshingly fragrant, citrus and vegan white wine), it was agreed amongst the three of us that we all had room for dessert…

Torn between all desserts from the highly appealing SUGAR section on the menu, we settled for sharing a couple of the Chocolate Brownies (classic!) and a particularly appetizing chocolate roll with salted caramel to share:

  • Chocolate & Peanut Arctic Roll, Salted Caramel (£6)
  • Miso Chocolate Brownie, Cherry & Ume Sauce (£6)

The Chocolate & Peanut Artic Roll really stood out for me, which was complimented well with the drops of sugary heaven from the Salted Caramel ice-cream, naturally leaving you to want more.

I can’t wait to return to Cottonpolis to now trial out their famous Bottomless Brunch – a great deal including high quality dishes and a decent ‘top up’ drinks service which the staff are renowned for being very hot on.

Highly recommend – you will not be disappointed if you visit this place as it ticks every box in terms of ambiance, service, drinks, and most importantly, the high quality of Asian food offered to suit all.

Opening Hours:
