MacKenzies Farm Shop & Smokehouse

As a country girl at heart, growing up in the rural landscapes of Shropshire has really made me appreciate a good Farm Shop, filled with fresh produce and local ingredients.

For all of you who follow me @EatOutMoore or have read one of my recent blog posts, you’ll see I’ve began working with local producers and food artisans across the UK to gain insight into their brand history, review their produce, and share with you the full story to help support the easy decision – to buy locally.

I was delighted to receive my latest foodie Hamper which was full of fresh produce from an independently ran business, just in time for VE Day celebrations and the bank holiday weekend.

Mackenzies Smokehouse, Restaurant and Farm shop has been in full swing for an impressive twenty years – so these guys sure know their produce. Located in Yorkshire, find out all about MacKenzies now; who they are and what they offer.

Photographed above, you’ll see MacKenzies’ hand-picked selection for the perfect breakfast;

  • Sliced Smoked Back Bacon
  • White loaf of Bread
  • Homemade Pastries
  • Yorkshire Tea
  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Damson Jam.

Quickly back to the brand story – more recently in 2019, MacKenzies has been taken over by husband and wife – Gabby and Paul Palmer, who are both passionate about their produce and offer a mix of food supplies, ranging from fresh locally sourced cheeses, to delicious artisan breads from the well loved Baltzersens Bakeri. Trust me – Baltzersens pastries will never disappoint you either…

And so on to brunch o’clock upon this weekend’s delivery, I was delighted to receive an array of produce, Breakfast Style as recommended by the team at MacKenzies.

My opening picture says it all – so I’m just going to jump straight into my favourite, being MacKenzies very own dry cured smoked back bacon accompanied with their fresh white bread loaf; the perfect combination for the meat lovers out there. There’s just something about smoked meats which is the ultimate comfort food.

For a sweeter tooth, the pastries as mentioned above are exceptional. I was gifted a mix of both savoury (cheese) and sweet (custard based) of which the latter was my most desired as this is my best pastry type. I think this passion stemmed from Greggs Custard Slices back in the day…

I’d recommend ordering both pastry types but perhaps just not at the same time – think I got a little carried with food related bank holiday weekend celebrations!

The Damson Jam is of course another breakfast essential (or any other meal scenario you can whip it into). Again, a very sweet yet sharp taste, bursting with a plum fruity flavour. Just watch out for those fruit stones – it has to be said!

For more than 25 years we have pioneered and created some of the finest smoked foods available.

MacKenzies Smokehouse is renowned on a national scale, and offer their produce both in supermarket stores such as Booths for example, and of course their own website which you can find here –

I cannot wait to try a wider selection from the range at their Smoke House , alongside the Butcher’s pick, Bakery bites and their general produce from the online shop – you’ll find they pretty much offer all food type requirements.

So if you’d like to support the independent business MacKenzies, make sure to order online now (and even better, stop by when next possible if you’re local!) to satisfy both your sweet & savoury appetite; from smoked bacon to fresh pastries and long-lasting fruity jam jars. Bliss.
