Today’s recipe is all about the latest home made Ginger ‘Spooky’ Scones with Sour Cherry Spoon Sweet, promoting one of my favourite local suppliers’ with their Award Winning Sour Cherry Spoon Sweet, gifted from Greka Foods.

I’ve been looking forward to reviewing this product for quite some time and can finally share with you their multi-purpose preserve within Greka Foods’ Honey & Spoon Sweets.
The Sour Cherry Spoon Sweet is Greka Foods’ personal favourite! Sour cherries are only available in Greece for a very short period of time; this preserve is most desired on Greek yogurt, over ice cream, with scones or as a filling for a cake.
We were so pleased in 2017 when we received a 1* Great Taste Award for the Sour Cherry Spoon Sweet.
As mentioned, the preserve is multi-purpose whereby the juice of the Sour Cherry preserve also makes this product a delicious refreshing drink! Mix a couple of tablespoons of the juice with water, plenty of ice and a few lemon slices in a tall glass and stir well. You can also use this as a cordial or a splash for a cheeky Prosecco…
Not only is the Sour Cherry Spoon Sweet an award winning product that can be used in lots of different ways, another unique selling point is the care and attention it takes to make it.
As a little insight into the product upon my latest catch up with Greka owners’ Sofia & Ian, they revealed the background to the preserve and the most unique part to the procedure of making the Sour Cherry; by manually pitting the cherries, using a hair clip. So it’s a pretty special product with I’m sure you’ll appreciate, with a very fair price point at only £5.50.
Now.. let’s get onto the recipe for my ultimate Sour Cherry Spoon Sweet and Ginger Scones promised earlier in the post.
- 280g Self Raising Flour
- Pinch of Salt
- Tablespoon of Sugar
- 2 Tea Spoons of Ground Ginger
- 20g of Chopped Butter
- 1 Egg
- 185ml Milk
- Tablespoon of Stem Ginger & Syrup
- Greek Yoghurt
- Sour Cherry Spoon Sweet.
Recipe Steps for x8 Large Scones:
- Sift the flour, sugar, salt and ground ginger into a bowl
- Rub the butter into the mix from step 1, using finger tips
- Lightly beat the egg and milk into the mix with a flat bladed knife to form a soft dough
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and cut into round shapes
- Brush the top of the dough with milk
- Put in the oven at 220°C for 15-20 minutes
- Remove from oven once golden brown and cool on a wire rack
- Serve with Greka’s Sour Cherry Spoon Sweet and Greek Yoghurt.
Oh, and you can just take the ‘spooky’ away from the title when baking my recommended scones, so you don’t have to wait all year round just to celebrate…
